☆How I (Almost) Stopped Biting My Nails!

    Via
    Hey Guys,

Here's a little secret about me.. promise you won't tell? Ok.. I'm a "reformed" raging nail biter! I was one of the worst you probably would ever see. My fingernails were so bad that there was almost no nails left. I think I picked up this habit from my Dad. His nails are tore apart all the time which is not really the look I'm going for. My nails are still messed up from how bad I used to chew them down and I started chewing them when I was around 12. Now I must admit, when I got my braces on, this had a bit to do with the reduced nail biting. (Ever tried to bite your nails right after getting your braces tightened? Ouch!). When I got really stressed though, I would still bite through the pain. Prom was coming up and my esthetician was getting worried and was telling me to get an appointment for gel nails. I was so against this because I'm weird and get freaked out imagining those on my fingers.

Some of my worst nightmares consist of my nails getting ripped off. The Ring ruined me.. Eww.. Anyways, I had to do something so..

    1) I started with buying the Sally Hansen Nail Biter polish: This stuff tastes disgusting and turned me from biting my nails but this didn't end the biting completely. I got desperate to bite my nails and bared with the taste so..

    2) Then I bought fake nails:  This not only helped me see how pretty nails could be, it also was a barrier to stop me from being able to touch/bite my real nails. After I got used to fake nails and saw my nails growing out a little bit..

    3) I invested in some pretty nail polish colors: I'm not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing because nail polish is now my addiction.. bad news for my pocketbook.. good news for my fingers. Investing in some pretty colors opened up a new world.. and I wanted to be a part of it! When my nails were really short I'd paint my fake nails and realized this was the look I wanted to achieve!

    4) Then I bought nail growth serum: This sped up the nail growth process so I could wear my new nail polish proudly! My new favorite is the Sally Hansen Green Tea and Bamboo nail strengthener.

My nails ended up growing out enough so I could have a natural french manicure at my grad! Yay!

Remember: It is extremely hard to stop biting your nails (it took me years) so don't feel defeated if you can't stop right away! Take it step by step and you will get where you want to be. My nails still aren't where I want them. I still bite them now and again when I'm stressed or have a test coming up but not nearly as bad as I used too!

Are any of you nail biters or former nail biters? If your a former nail biter, how did you stop/what are your tips? If your a nail biter, please let us know if these tips helped!

    ☆Sunday Social

    Sunday Social

Second post of the day! Woo! I've linked up with Ashley and Neely for Sunday Social!

    1. What is your dream job?
There are so many things! One that sticks out though is I always dreamed of working with Seventeen as the person that tests beauty products and writes about them. I'm glad I now have this blog so I can bring that energy here! But I would definitely love something involved with Marketing or PR.. It's my calling!

    2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
Probably do a lot of living.. lol! I would do a lot of boating, reading, yoga (hot yoga is one of my new favourite things), shopping, reading blogs, playing guitar and playing with makeup of course!

    3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a professional figure skater and a professional singer! Fun fact about me is I started figure skating when I was five and I've been playing guitar since I was 12!

    4. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Technically my career right now is a student in university lol! So if your getting ready to head off to school, I would say you get out whatever you put into it so find something your truly interested in (which can be super hard at first but no worries, you'll get there!) and work hard.

    5. What are your biggest pet peeves in life, blogging, or at work?
I think my answer would have to be the same as Ashley's. There is no room for senseless drama anywhere in life.

    6. What are your biggest fears?
I hate styrofoam! OMG but I'm not afraid of it so that's not the best answer. Um.. I really hate flying and I suck with heights.  *shutter*

So there it is guys! Please go check out the link up and let me know if you do this weeks questions!

    ☆July Empties!

    Hey Guys!

Today I'm here with an empties post! I love reading/watching empties because once you finish a product, you really know what you think of it. Here is some empties I've been hoarding this month!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream- I really liked using this product as a primer, sunscreen and moisturizer, but it didn't give any coverage and it felt kind of heavy on my face. I would repurchase this during the summer when I need a high SPF.

Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer- The Proactiv Repairing Treatment really dries out your face so this is really soothing to put on after the treatment dries. I would repurchase this because it sinks into my skin really well for something with it's gel-like texture so it leaves my skin feeling soft and looking bright.

Urban Decay All Nighter Spray- I love this stuff! It really does keep your makeup on all night! I recently bought the Urban Decay Deslick so if I find I don't like Deslick, I'm going to switch back to my beloved All Nighter!

Joico K-Pak Moisture Renue Shampoo and Conditioner- This smells good but it doesn't moisturize as much as I'd like. I probably won't repurchase right now so I can venture out to try other shampoo and conditioners. My friend recently told me about the Shu Uemura Moisture Velvet shampoo and conditioner that he likes so I'm tempted to pick that one up!

St. Ives Hydrate Vitamin E Body Lotion- This lotion makes your skin so smooth and silky! I think it's only around $4 for this huge bottle! This particular smell is not my favourite though. I like that it's paraben free and formulated with 100% natural moisturizers. I will repurchase this again but in a different scent.. and after I've made away with some my Bath and Body Works lotions.

Organix Coconut Milk Split End Mender- I really love how this stuff makes my hair feel and smell. I think it really does help with split ends as well! I haven't gone for my routine hair cut in a long time and my ends are still looking pretty good! This is a definite repurchase!

*Not pictured: EOS Raspberry Shave Cream- I love this stuff because you can shave your legs wet or dry and it smells amazing! I won't be able to repurchase though because my Shoppers Drug Mart stopped selling this. Sad times!

What products have you guys finished up this month? Anything you have to buy or you won't be buying again?

☆Fresh Paint: Sally Hansen Pacific Blue

You guys have inspired me! All that talk about blue in the comments of my last Fresh Paint post sent me on a blue nails kick. This is Sally Hansen Pacific Blue which is opaque with 2 coats and one coat of Sally Hansen Mega Shine on top. This blue is so shiny alone that you really don't need a top coat but I feel naked if I don't use one lol!

This polish has much more purple than what is showing up in the pictures. I think this is one polish that needs to be seen in real life to see all of it's gorgeousness (is that a word? haha).

What do you guys think of this color? What are you wearing on your nails today? :)

    ☆Goodies!

    Hey Guys!

I've picked up a few things over the past couple of weeks and I thought I'd show you all in a little blog haul!

Benefit Dandelion- I thought I'd be to dark for this face powder.. Even though I'm fair, I have yellow undertones so I didn't think it would show up but I tried it out in the store and it was a pretty natural pink flush which I love! I went with every intention to get Benefit They're Real mascara but I thought for the extra few dollars I can pick up a boxed powder so I couldn't resist.

Benefit Dandelion lipgloss- This. Smells. So. Good...!!!! I could seriously smell it all day. The color is a gorgeous baby pink with little gold shimmer. Perfect for summer!

Urban Decay Deslick- I'm almost out of my Urban Decay All Nighter spray and I wanted to try something different. I've heard lots of great things about Deslick so I hope it works as good as the All Nighter Spray!

From left: Catalina, Dandelion blush, Dandelion gloss
Benefit It's Potent Eyecream- As you guys may have seen in my wish list, I've been wanting to try this and I'm almost out of my Clinique All About Eyes.

Cargo blush in Catalina- I don't like Sears.. I wish they would seriously turn them all into Macy's or something haha but I ran though there and saw they had a couple of Cargo things they were selling for 40% off. I'm not sure why they were there since our Sears doesn't have a Cargo counter but I figured I'd pick it up because it's a gorgeous color!

Do you guys like hauls? Have you tried any of these products? If so, what do you think? Please let me know in the comments below! :)

    ☆Top Coat Battle!

    Top Coats I own ATM
Today I come to you with an epic battle.. a quarrel of all quarells!.. it's Seche Vite vs Sally Hansen Mega Shine! So those of you who are nail polish lovers and frequent watchers of Youtube Beauty Gurus may know there are many who love Seche Vite and others who adore Sally Hansen Mega Shine. For those of you who may not be familiar with these nail polish finishers, Seche Vite is relatively expensive for a top coat, while Sally Hansen Mega Shine is supposed to be the cheaper alternative to Seche Vite. Seche Vite retails for around $12 while Mega Shine is around $8.

So what do they promise to do?

Seche Vite, according to the website says: "dry fast top coat is widely acknowledged as the world's finest top coat. Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish. Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling."

Sally Hansen Mega Shine claims that is will keep manicres beautiful up to 10 days, dries in 60 seconds and has a micro-diamond formula which features light-refractive diamond particles that add mirror shine and strength. Sounds perrrrrtay good..

    So what do I think?

Seche Vite gives a beautiful shine and a gel like finish to your manicure. When I first bought the bottle, the consistancy was perfect and I couldn't have been happier. As you get halfway through the bottle it turns yellow and becomes extremely goopy making it messy and hard to get out of the bottle. This goopy consistancy also makes it quite hard to apply to the nails and makes your manicure look messy.

Sally Hansen Mega Shine does dry very fast and gives the same shine as Seche Vite. Its not as thick so it's not as hard to take off if you're a frequent nail polish changer like myself. The only thing I don't like is the brush because if you don't have a lot of polish on the brush, it leaves your mani streaky and that's not what you want after all that hard work!

So in the end I could take or leave either one. Each has their pros and cons so I think I'm still on the hunt for my perfect top coat.

    ☆Fresh Paint: Essie Tart Deco

Pink is officially my summer color. I think I might have been wearing different variations of pink since the beginning of June! Next time I might have to switch it up a little but for now here is Essie Tart Deco! This is a beautiful bright pink which is opaque in 2 coats.

Please excuse my nails! I'm a "former" nail biter but when I have a major exam I chew them all apart. I have one finger for each subject and my latest test was accounting LOL.

What color do you guys have on your nails atm? Do you have a signature summer color?

    ☆This or That Beauty Tag

    1. Blush or Bronzer? Definitely blush! I'm almost as obsessed with blush now as I am with nail polish.. almost. I love experimenting with different color blushes. I usually do coral/brights in the summer and flushed reds/rosy pinks in the wintertime.
    2. Lipgloss or Lipstick? I like lipgloss for a light hint of color in the summer and lipstick in the winter.
    3. Lip Balm or Lip Butter? Lip balm for the moisture.
    4. Matte or sparkle eye shadow? Lately, I've been loving mattes.. I don't like shimmer overload because I feel to powdery.
    5. Eye Liner or Mascara? Mascara because I hardly ever wear eye liner.
    6. Gel, Liquid or Cream Liner? Again, I don't usually wear liners but I've experimented with gel and I really liked the look. When I think gel liner I instantly think Lauren Conrad and her makeup is always so gorgeous!
    7. Foundation or Concealer? Foundation because I can layer it for more coverage.
    8. Liquid or Powder foundation? Liquid because I look too cakey with powder.
    9. Neutral or Colour Eye Shadow? Neutral! I love creating different neutral looks.
    10. Pressed or Loose Shadows? Pressed since they're less messy! Loose looks so beautiful as well though!
    11. Waterproof or Non-Waterproof? Waterproof mascara because my eyes water really easily.
    12. Brushes or Sponges? Brushes!!
    13. Powder, Cream or Liquid Highlighter? I love Benefit's Highbeam so liquid. They look so beautifully natural.

3 babies from my Summer Nail Polish picks!
    1. OPI or Essie? I love OPI because their formula is so consistent. I find with some Essie polishes you can end up with a sheer ones that you need to layer to get a good color payoff.
    2. Acrylic or Natural? Definitely natural. Everytime I think of acrylic nails I think of the beginning of the ring where she tries to climb out of the well and all her nails crack off.. Sorry for that image.
    3. Brights or Darks? Brights in the summer! Darks in the winter! Who knew makeup was such a seasonal thing?
    4. Matte or Shiny? Shiny!
    5. Glitter or No Glitter? Glitter!! There is always room for glitter!
    1. Perfume or Body Splash? Perfume.. I love the complexity of perfumes.
    2. Lotion or Body Butter? Lotion.. especially from Bath and Body Works. I love to layer the scent to make it last longer.
    3. Body wash or Soap? Body wash!

I tag everybody that reads this!

☆Discovery! NYX Bohemian Chic Nude Matte Collection

    Hi Guys!
I haven't been able to find this thing anywhere on the internet. I've tried searching google a bunch of times and nothing has come up except NYX cream blush in boho chic which has an extreme cult following (it's also amazing), but this is not a cream blush. This my friends, is a beautiful palette filled with 24 matte eyeshadows and 2 blushes which I bought for $20! I'm so excited to try out different looks with this palette because I have been obsessed with matte shadows lately. Usually I stay away from palettes like this unless they're Urban Decay (which I'm slightly obsessed with.. that's another story) but I could not pass this one up.

This palette has a mix of warm and cool mattes which range from pinks, browns, taupes and whites. There are some days when I just don't feel like putting shimmer on my eyes but I still want definition so this palette is perfect! I had hardly any matte eyeshadows until now. I can use this palette alone or it will pair well with the naked palettes! I can't wait to start trying out different summer looks with these shadows!

On the bottom there are 6 colorful eyeshadows, a matte pink blush and a matte peach blush. Most of the eyeshadows are blendable but a few swatched chalky so I think they might be hard to work with. The two blush colors are pigmented and very pretty! They are a great pairing with all these shadows. My only problem with this palette is how bulky it is. The bottom drawer makes it wide and I'm trying to figure out where I will store it, but I can deal for the sake of all these pretty colors.

Have any of you heard of this palette before? It seems to be non-existent in the internet world as far as I can see. Do you guys like matte eyeshadows or do you rather shimmer?

☆Nail of the Day: butter London Trout Pout

    Hi guys!

It's getting close to friday! I hope everyones excited for the weekend! Do you guys have any special plans? I'm thinking about hitting up the mall and doing some major wallet damage which is my idea of an amazing weekend. My town doesn't have a Sephora anywhere in sight and being the nail polish junkie I am, I used to get pretty disappointed when I would see NOTD's featuring gorgeous butter London nail polishes. Seeing as the nearest Sephora is 1,484 km or 21 hours 46 minutes drive away (I looked that up on google maps.. I know, I'm a dork) I became pretty excited when I found out a local dermatologist was starting to sell butter London. As soon as they posted that their shipment of polishes was in, I bolted over to grab some Trout Pout.
Trout Pout is described as a Cantaloupe, pale and retro lacquer which I think fits. I'm now in love with the butter London formula because it is smooth and applies evenly. In the picture is I'm wearing two coats of Trout Pout with Sally Hansen's Mega Shine top coat. I may have to go raid the butter London polishes a bit more. I have Cheeky Chops and Slapper on my wish list!

What are some of your favourite nail polishes? Do you have any butter London faves I should check out?

    ☆June Favorites!

Darn you Macbook! It keeps telling me I'm spelling favorites wrong.. I could've sworn I've been spelling it like this my entire life. I apologize in advance for any variations in my spelling. Sometimes I feel the need to change it and show the computer who's boss here, then sometimes I say give in and let the computer do what it wants. #canadianspellingproblems

Let's get down to business here:

    OMG FAVORITES!!

Ok.. I'm kind of over excited, but favorites are well.. my favorite! I love reading/watching anything that has to do with favorites!

This month they are all stunners and I adore them all but I have to say my stand out product is my Clinique Even Better Foundation. I feel like it's really helped even and brighten my complexion while helping to fade acne scars. I know what you're all thinking.. Isn't an awful lot from a foundation? I have been using my Clarisonic with my ProActiv 3 step system and there is something about this foundation that is helping my skin along because it has not looked this good in a long time. On top of all that it has nice light/medium coverage which is perfect for somebody with acne in the summertime because it doesn't feel heavy while covering any spots.

I've just noticed that Maybelline gets the brand award this month since I have their beauty balm, color tattoo eyeshadow and baby lips all in my favorites. Lately I've been using the beauty balm all over my face to moisturize and to protect my face/neck from the sun because of it's SPF 30. Then I use the Clinique Even Better foundation to go over any places I feel need extra coverage. I use the Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze on my lip and lined below my bottom lashes and it gives the perfect bronzy beach girl look. I stole the idea from Seventeen magazine.. Is it bad that it's still my favorite and I'm 21? I haven't found a magazine that can replace it yet especially the makeup part! The only part I have no use for is the dating tips.. I think my boyfriend would find it kinda strange if I started going on with some of the things they tell you to do in there haha! And then the baby lips which smell delish and is so moisturizing. I think I like this more than my Smith's Rosebud Salve which is good because baby lips are cheaper and much cuter.

Benefit's Hervana is just the best! I haven't stopped using it since I bought it almost 2 months ago. I usually never commit to a product like that. I use it alone or I'll put Posietint/ChaChatint under it and the stains glow through.

Last but not least there is Bath and Body Works summer vanillas? "But Ashlee?", you say, "weren't they from last years summer scents?" Then I say "GUUUURRRRLL, you need to check out the semi-annual sale!". So I got the Summer Vanillas Apricot this 2 weeks ago at the semi-annual sale for $1.25 but the lemon body spray is my back up from last year. I like to smell like a tall glass of lemonade during the summer. I do believe that the sale ends today though so GO GURL GO!

☆7 Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag

I saw this tag going around Youtube a while ago and I thought it would be fun to give 'er a go! :)

    1. GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?
My most inexpensive beauty item is my elf eyelash curler that I bought for $1.50 because of all the reviews I've heard. I find it a little awkward to use atm, but I hope to get used to it.
My most expensive would be my Nars Orgasm/Laguna Duo. I was debating between this and any of my Urban Decay palettes but I think with the palettes, we are getting more for our money.

    2. WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?
I have a love/hate relationship with eyeshadow. I feel that I'm not really sure how to use it properly sometimes but then sometimes I feel like a find a combo that looks good. #makeupgirlproblems

    3. GLUTTONY: What are you most delicious beauty products?
Definitely my Lush Bubble Gum lip scrub. Not only is it delicious but it works amazingly.

    4. SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?
Eyeshadow.. Could also be due to my love/hate relationship with it. lol!

    5. PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most confidence?
Foundation and Concealor because it helps cover up any of my acne.

    6. LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite gender (your preferred gender)?
Firstly a nice/funny personality and second I look for nice teeth and eyes.

    7. ENVY: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?
I would love to receive some MAC products from the new Heavenly Creatures collection atm. Everything looks so beautiful!
